The third story on the news on 9/11 was 9/11, I find that shocking. I do not believe that we need a national day of mourning, but I find it odd how in only seven years it only ranks as the third most important news story of the day. I am curious as to what your opinions are?
For me, 9/11 is a very real and horrific memory. I was a college Senior in Albany NY. Most of my friends were either from the Albany area or from Long Island or NYC. On 9/11, I will never forget sitting in my friends living room, at least fifteen of us huddled around a tv, silent, just watching and waiting for hours. Some of my friends had family in NYC, some had family around or in the trade centers. My best friend/roommate's brother in law was a NYC firefighter who for two days was unaccounted for. I stayed with her for hours as she waited for news, and celebrated when she found out he was OK. Her brother in law got lucky, on September 1st he was promoted, the entire day shift of his old company was dead. His old company were the first responders to the trade center. People my roommate grew up, socialized with, vanished in those buildings.
I remember watching people grieve for their friends, family, and innocence that they lost. To me it is so real I can't ever fathom how it could only be a blip on our radar screens. For me, I will never forgot, but is forgetting what needs to happen for us as a nation to move on?
Is 9/11 something that we need to as a nation move on from or make a bigger deal about?

I think as a nation we should make a bigger deal about 9/11 i think it brings out the pride in America and we need more of that. After 9/11 we came together as a nation and supported America but soon after that it wasn't as strong. It's not something we should forget. I remember being in my fifth grade classroom and celebrating my birthday, even though my teacher told the whole class what was happening i still had no idea.
i agree with you. 9/11 was one of the biggest attack on American soil since the civil war. i don't understand how people can forget about 9/11 or think it's not as important anymore when the man believed to plan the attack is still out there. i know for a fact that 9/11 was the biggest event that occurred in my life and i will never forget it
911, 911, 911. It was a huge horrible day. I think every year it should be a huge thing on the news and everywhere else in America. I remember it like it was yesterday. I was only in 4th grade and my teacher's face was really red. Some parents even came to pick up their kids. I didnt have any idea what was going on. To this day it feel like it just happened.
i dont think we should forget but as time goes i think that we need to move on. there are a lot of other that go on in this country unnoticed and just because we dont hear about them on a huge national level it doesnt mean that people arent being killed or hurt in some way.
I think that 9/11 was a huge deal and everyone remembers it as if it occured yesturday. However i dont believe it is neccessary to make a big deal on the news year after year. It's impossible to forget the events that happened on that day and the impact it had on the entire nation and continues to have. Everyday i feel that at somepoint whether it be in our moment of silence we remember those lost and i dont think a day of mourning is necessary.
i didnt think that 9 11 was a huge deal when it happened but as i got older and understood it more, i realized just how big of an impact it had on our country, the people in it, the world, and the future. even now we are stuck in september 11 because we have troops over seas and have yet to move on from what happened 7 years ago.
I do think that what happened on 9/11 was tragic. However, I do not think that we should make a bigger deal out of it. I think that people remember what happened that day like it was yesterday and think of the families and friends who lost loved ones but there is a time to move on. Moving on does not mean that it will be forgotten but that we can not grieve over the past because we have to move on with the future and develop a stronger, more unified nation.
When the attack happened, I was in 5th grade. I remembered not understanding what happened and I didn't understand how many people have actually died. My teacher didn't do a very good job explaining to us the importance of what just happened mostly because she was in shock herself. I think that we do need to make a bigger deal about 9/11. It helps to bring the country together as a whole and shows the pride we have in our nation. However, I also think that we do need to move on because then we would just be dwelling on the past. People shouldn't grieve about they're loved ones, but remember them, and grow from the experience.
I believe 9/11 is a very powerful day in our society. It's a day of rememberence of those who suffered on the day and faught for the pride of the united states to save other who were in the world trade centers. It should still be a strong day even 20 years from now. It was a big hit to usand caused alot of change.
I feel like we have days off for things a lot less significant than September 11th. For example, presidents birthdays. The fact that we still come to school only goes to show that we don't even mourn for the people lost and as time passes it seems its getting less and less significant. Something so tragic shouldn't be sort of pushed under the rug the way it was.
I think 9/11 was and still is a big deal. I don't know how anyone could forget about it, and our nation should be making a bigger deal out of it but also they don't need to make that big of a deal just so everyone always remembers what happened on that day. I remember being in 5th grade in Spanish class when it happened and a lot of the other students got to watch what was happening on t.v. but our class didn't get to so I didn't really know what was going on.
Yes and no. We do need to move on from it, but not forget it. Although how important that day is and always will be to our country, we just need to move on and try to grow as a nation.
well i do not really think that we need to hang onto what happened as much as we really are. Granted it was a big deal yes, and it will foreve have an impact on our country; but all of this chaos and scare tactics and acts that are out into play are so not necessary because it happened and we need to learn from it so that it will not happen ever again. Not scare everyone so we can run around pointing fingers all day because we think everyone who looks like the people who did it are involed. that's just flt out nonsense and it needs to stop. By doing all this scaring and pointing of fingers it is making our country weaker and only setting ourselves up for it to happen again.
Overall, I don't really have a stance on 9/11, my life wasn't affected at all, but I still feel kind of angry that someone did that, to tell you the truth I don't even know if it was Bin Laden or not, its pretty sketchy, but to senselessly throw away such a memory would actually hurt us more than help. We all must move on, but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't learn from it.
I remember being in 5th grade hearing about the incident in school and coming home and watching it on the news. It was a traumatic incident and everyone should remember the day and understand how many people lost their lives. People risked their lives for others, so when the media treat it like nothing, it hurts everyone around them.
I think September 11 is something that should always be remembered because it was a tragedy. However, I do think that people should move on but should still see and recognize the significance of the event. I also like how we do a moment of silence in our school to remember it.
I think that 9/11 was a very tragic event for our nation and it should never be forgotten. I remember sitting in my fifth grade classroom and hearing what was happening-though at that time I dind't fully understand the big deal behind it all. When I got home that is when it hit me and today to me it seems as if it happened yesterday. I think that living through an event such as 9/11 will never vanish from my memory but those who very were young or not yet in this world during that time would not know the significance of the event. This is why I think that there should be a day of mourning for what had happened. The day of mourning would not only pay respect to ALL the people and their families who had to suffer through this terrible time in our nation's history but also teach future generations about tragic event in history and emphasize the importance of them.
